Jointed Teddy ITH Design

Price

$10.00

This vintage-style Teddy Bear with jointed arms, legs, and head can be posed in many charming ways.  It features minimal embroidery for that classic, hand-made look.  But your embroidery machine does all the hard work stitching the seams and markings for a simple, yet adorable project that will WOW anybody you gift it to.

Some hand stitching is needed to close parts after stuffing.

Tools and Materials Needed

Tools
• Embroidery machine (TIP – a size 14 needle may stitch better through multiple layers of thick fabrics)
• Sharp fabric scissors
• Hemostats or other turning tool for turning and stuffing
• Long doll needle and strong thread for closing the seam openings and attaching the muzzle.

Materials:
• Teddy Fabrics:
—->  small : ¼ yard, or 3 sheets of craft felt
—-> medium: ¼ yard
—->  large : 1/3 yard
• The teddy bear requires 5 hoopings. Each hooping will need 2 layers of fabric the same size as the hoop.
• Lightweight Cut-away or tear-away machine embroidery stabilizer for each hooping. See note in fabric choices below.
• Embroidery thread and bobbin to match your fabric, plus black for facial features
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Scrap of water or heat soluble stabilizer to use under the face detail stitches
• 5 sets of locking doll joints, or 4 buttons if button joints are preferred. (joint sizes: small works better with button joints. Medium uses 20-30mm joints. Large uses 30-40mm joints)
• About fabric choices: This bear was tested using felt, fuzzy felt, fleece, and short pile faux furs.  Longer furs or thicker/heavier fabrics might be hard to turn the skinny arms and legs right side out.
